River Teign

These photographs formed the exhibition I had at the picturesque Fingle Bridge Inn next to the river. It was a very successful showing of my work for the first time as part of the Devon Open Studios Event.

Hydrotherapy

I am fortunate to live up the road from this quintessential river and its stunning surroundings. Walking around the river banks I felt inclined to record the subtle beauty seen closely of the moving and still liquid energy in the water. We all seem to have a great calming moment upon seeing water in beautiful surrounds. Just like gazing out to sea from the coast I watch people take a deep breath and pleasurable sigh when confronted with a view of the river. after a determined walk or car journey, our spirits are always lifted upon seeing the water in its wild form.

Because I cannot paint or draw I have used photography to invite you to take a closer look with a different heart. They are not the conventional pictures you may come to expect from looking at the river. Some of these are abstract in their nature and appear to suggest the river is full of bright colours. Well the colours are there and are ever changing with the light, it’s just that in some of the images I have boosted their existence using contrast and altered exposure settings during the digital processing to enhance and frill the final picture. just like a road atlas or graphic plan I have used these tools to define the detail I want you to observe. I haven’t used photoshop or the like to adulterate the photograph in a figurative way, the shapes and textures are all there making up these amazing patterns. The colours and reflections from the sky, the underwater sand, stone and weed, the surrounding banks of seasonal foliage all add to the magic energy we see and hear in the river.

The second part of the Trilogy was exhibited at the Fingle Bridge Inn in September 2014.
